This is a genuine coin recovered from the Gela Shipwreck. The coin is dated 1667 and it is set into a handcrafted sterling silver pendant bezel. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, polishing cloth, velvet pouch and gift box. The Gela shipwreck occurred 12 miles east of Gela, Sicily in 1667.

A merchantman was traveling through the Mediterranean Sea from Spain, stopping in northern Italy, and around Sicily to the. Arab lands of the Near East. Much of the silver treasure were Spanish cobs and silver luiginos from Italian cities. This 1667 silver luigino was minted in Fosdinovo, a lordship and castle near Florence. It is still owned by the Malaspina family.
